Art from the Sistene Chapel

posted in: Uncategorized | 2

I was planning on posting a book review today, but it did not work out the way I expected. So, I give you instead a taste of some of the magnificent artwork that will surround the cardinal electors for the next few days (?) or so. Share this with your kids! All photos are from Wikimedia Commons.

File:JuicioFinale.jpg
The Last Judgment by Michelangelo (detail).

The central figure is Jesus, as you can see by the clear nail marks in His feet.

File:Sandro Botticelli 034.jpg
The Trials of Moses by Sandro Botticelli (detail).

This painting, along with the next, is found in a series about the life of Moses on the southern wall.

Moses’s Journey into Egypt and the Circumcision of His Son Eliezer by Pietro Perugino.

The Calling of the Apostles by Domenico Ghirlandaio.

This picture from a series on the life of Christ from the northern wall has lots of details you can discuss.

Enjoy the conclave, and keep praying for the cardinals!
